client: Neighborhood House

building community and increasing access to housing, health, education, and economic opportunity

We redesigned the Neighborhood House website using a more modern, polished, professional design. We used an organized system of customized templates and fields that simplified the process of updating content and the process of users finding information.

website features

database design

We created multiple databases that worked in concert with one another that helped content providers work quickly and efficiently:

  • an educator database  that included different structures for assistant teachers, family advocates, family educators, and teachers
  • a location database that helped people find specific buildings and classes
  • learning resources that organized individual lessons into meaningful curricula
  • announcements that broadcast important events and notifications to the people who needed to get them
Google Analytics

Google Analytics installed for tracking site traffic, sources, user behavior, and additional statistics.

documentation

Key concepts and procedures explained in step-by-step processes through online documentation.

forms

Interactive forms that send submissions to an email address or to a secure online database installed and configured.

simplified forms

Additional security enhancements that protect the site from being hacked through brute force attacks, use of weak passwords, out of date plugins, and similar vulnerabilities.

social media integration

Social media integration in the form of links to social media accounts, feeds, or email signups.

support

Support options available for making sure plugin updates, backups, training, and enhancements are available and that the site stays online.

Neighborhood House

I worked with Shew Design on a fast-moving project with a lot of externally-mandated parameters, and Shew Design was wonderful! Our $24 million/year multi-service nonprofit has a lot of considerations and voices to factor into all web design projects, and Becca and Eric listened and responded well. They kept our users at the center of the conversation and provided excellent customer service as they implemented a production plan that followed an aggressive timeline. The website they designed & produced is better for our clients, staff, and communities than we had envisioned, and can easily be edited and expanded to continue to meet the needs of an ever-changing social services landscape.
